I have watched the film Training Day countless times. I really like it. It’s not a classic – just a good movie to watch.
But to this day I still do not believe Denzel Washington should have won the Oscar. It’s a totally subjective issue, but in my heart I just do not think it was Oscar-worthy. Again, my opinion. And I am big Denzel fan.
The 2002 Oscars have always been a difficult one for me to deal with. I also think Halle Berry had no business winning. But surely many people think otherwise. Fair enough. But I just don’t see what was so special about her performance.
Between the two acting categories it was a mostly weak line-up. I always found it interesting that A Beautiful Mind can win Best Picture, Best Director, Best Supporting Actress and Best Adapted Screenplay but does not win for Best Actor.
I think Russell Crowe did not win because he had just won the year before with Gladiator.
Perhaps the voting block was resistant to awarding Crowe a second Best Actor in a row. If so, Washington is a solid #2.
His role in Malcom X was deserving of an Oscar. But then Al Pacino misses out on his award for Scent of a Woman, even though he should have won for any number of other films… and on and on it goes.
a serious man.
i won’t lie – i thought ‘burn after reading’ was mediocre at best. but this movie looks good.
good reading.
Although the president claims he can finance the enormous increase in costs by raising taxes only on high-income individuals, tax experts know that this won’t work. Experience shows that raising the top income-tax rate from 35 percent today to more than 45 percent — the effect of adding the proposed health surcharge to the increase resulting from letting the Bush tax cuts expire for high-income taxpayers — would change the behavior of high-income individuals in ways that would shrink their taxable incomes and therefore produce less revenue. The result would be larger deficits and higher taxes on the middle class. Because of the unprecedented deficits forecast for the next decade, this is definitely not a time to start a major new spending program.

The other night I was watching the 1000th episode celebration of Attack of the Show; I have seen maybe 4 of those 1000 episodes. It’s an entertaining program for the most part, but what strikes me about hosts Kevin Pereiera and Olivia Munn, aside from that each appears to be fun and easy-going, is just how average they are at hosting a show. Maybe the whole point is that their hosting style is supposed to look and feel clunky – if so they’re doing great. I’m sure I’m in the minority, but I just get a troubled feeling when I watch them talk over one another and try to be funny, in that totally forced way.
About that new reality show ‘More To Love’

I will almost guarantee that there will be a time during season 1 of More To Love when the producers will introduce five, hot skinny bitches into the pool of contestants just to ramp up the drama. Book it!
how much does tom shales charge for this kind of pathetic ass-kissing?
Though polls show his popularity in slight decline, Obama did nothing at the news conference — other than preempt or delay some prime-time shows — that would seem potentially harmful to his image. About the most justifiable criticism that could likely be made: “Barack Obama still seems too good to be true.” — Obama Goes Off-Topic, Clearly
How on earth could you even begin to take this guy seriously? Pay attention Shales!
great last paragraph!
The fact that a majority of Americans don’t want any part of Obama’s government-centric health care overhaul masquerading as “reform” hasn’t stopped this elected executive or his allies among those who supposedly represent the will of their constituents. Instead, it has made the thin-skinned, hyper-partisan President Obama ratchet up his rhetoric even higher, taking on a full blown “You’re Either With Us or Against America” stance that cannot help but remind Americans of what he really (amazingly) is: the living embodiment of the left’s hated caricature of his predecessor.

But He’s Cool With The Palestinian Suicide Car Bombers
British director Ken Loach has withdrawn his film from the Melbourne International Film Festival to protest Israeli funding related to the festival. Loach withdrew Looking for Eric, which was scheduled to screen on July 30, after the festival turned down his request to refuse money from the Israeli Embassy.
Loach wrote to festival director Richard Moore, saying he was not protesting Israeli films or filmmakers, but objected to Israel’s “illegal occupation of Palestinian land, destruction of homes and livelihoods.”

Ryan Seacrest nears new megadeal
Seacrest has made an entree into producing with such unscripted series as “Keeping Up With the Kardashians,” “Denise Richards: It’s Complicated” and ABC’s upcoming show starring Jamie Oliver.
I don’t have a problem with RS, but the Kardashian show means he’s going to end up in hell. Sorry, dude.
